Inspirator Fred Booy

Within the ‘Building for Biodiversity’ research project Fred Booy was invited as an inspirator on Thursday, January 8th 2015. Fred (1961) is specialized in maintenance and he advises on planting schemes and design and maintenance plans for public space. Next to his consultancy he is owner of a biological nursery in Boskoop, the Netherlands.

Under his guidance the participants discussed the various approaches of nature in the city from his field of expertise, from ‘just waiting what happens’ to designed planting and spreading out seeds. Special attention was given to the dimension of time in nature, as well as the urban conditions (wind, heat, hard surfaces) in relation to the desired development of networks fostering the spreading of flora and fauna. “If there is suddenly a tree missing in an alley, there are bats that will not continue their flights, but return home”
